Located behind a closed gate in the lively 11th arrondissement of Paris, LOUI Apartment by Holzrausch Studio stands as a rare sanctuary in the city’s dense urban fabric. The journey to the house – along a winding path through a lush courtyard, culminates in a tranquil family home, where peace and privacy are paramount. This unexpected garden retreat offers a sharp contrast to the vibrant neighborhood beyond its walls.

Holzrausch Studio is an award-winning German design studio with integrated workshops, delivering bespoke interior design projects worldwide. Their seamless blend of design and craftsmanship ensures every detail is meticulously realized, from concept to completion.

Minimalism as a Philosophy

Holzrausch Studio’s approach centers on restraint, material quality, and timelessness. “They wanted an interior defined by calm and simplicity, deliberately avoiding anything trendy or Instagram-driven,” shares Tobias Petri, cofounder and design lead. The client, a former model and gallery owner, was drawn to this ethos, seeking an environment free from decorative distractions or art, despite a professional background in the creative world.

Material Harmony and Natural Light

The interior’s sensory impact comes from a deliberate limitation of materials: oak, plaster, stone, and stainless steel in the kitchen. All lighting is recessed, appliances are concealed behind oak cabinetry, and much of the furniture is built-in, reinforcing a seamless visual flow. The concrete floors remain as a nod to the building’s history, while new façades and skylights bring daylight into every corner. The sculptural staircase, clad in oak, serves as both a functional centerpiece and a conduit for natural light, distributing it across all levels.

Spanning four floors and approximately 3,800 square feet, the townhouse is designed for a family of four, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. In warmer months, large doors open to the private garden, blurring the boundary between inside and out, and inviting daily life to flow into the green space.

Craftsmanship Without Borders

Holzrausch’s commitment to quality is reflected in the international roster of craftspeople: Italian plasterwork, Danish oak floors and lighting, and the studio’s own in-house team. Originating as a modest wood workshop, Holzrausch has evolved into a full-service design studio, maintaining a direct, hands-on approach to every project. “Many clients come directly to us because the distance between design and fabrication is extremely short,” explains Tobias Petri.

Describing themselves as interior designers, interior architects, and master carpenters, Holzrausch brings a holistic vision to each commission. “Our philosophy has always been simplicity, minimalism, and timelessness, this project reflects that completely,” says Tobias Petri. The studio’s name, ‘Holzrausch,’ encapsulates a fascination with materials, most notably wood, a passion evident throughout the LOUI PARIS townhouse.
