OODA’s Miramar Tower stands as a sculptural presence on the city’s southern edge, bringing a new level of precision and ambition to coastal residential living. With its spiral terraces, expansive balconies, and dendriform vertical section, the tower reimagines how architecture can shape both skyline and domestic life.

RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE

The project occupies a central position on its plot, ensuring maximum distance from neighboring structures while maintaining a dialogue with the nearby towers of Pasteleira Park. Rising 15 storeys above a podium, Miramar Tower shares their height but introduces a wholly different concept. Its volumetric composition was driven by the challenge of designing apartments where each floor offers more than 200 square meters of balcony area. The result is a building that transforms outdoor living into a defining architectural experience.

The spiraling terraces provide every apartment with a surrounding garden in the sky, creating individuality for each home. By sliding horizontal slabs across balcony zones, OODA imbues the façade with rhythm and dynamism. The interplay of rotation and offsetting gives the building a sculptural quality, enhancing both its vertical presence and its tactile relationship with light and shadow.

Inside, the design balances openness and intimacy. Common areas dissolve into the exterior through the fluidity of indoor-outdoor thresholds, while private rooms remain clearly defined. This duality elevates the living experience, offering expansive horizons without sacrificing seclusion. On the ground level, a verdant atrium integrates natural vegetation to establish a microclimate, connecting the project with its coastal setting and encouraging biodiversity.

Materially, the tower embraces the honesty of concrete, using its structural and sculptural potential to unify concept and form. The expressive balconies act not only as generous extensions of living space but also as a framework for architectural storytelling, spiraling upward as a visible marker of Miramar Tower’s identity.

Between revivalist nods to the archetypal tower and the modern demand for integrated living environments, OODA crafts an architecture of scale, strength, and grace. Miramar Tower becomes more than a residential block; it is a vertical landscape, a rhythm of terraces and shadows that capture the essence of life by the sea in Porto.
