Sutton Tower, the 850-foot residential landmark on Manhattan’s East Side waterfront, has received the 2025 BLT Built Design Award for Architectural Design: Skyscraper. Designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen and developed by JVP Development and Gamma Real Estate, the tower stands as a global showcase of New York luxury and craftsmanship. The recognition coincides with Sutton Tower surpassing $150 million in sales this year, positioning it among the city’s top-selling new developments of 2025.

The BLT Built Design Awards honor excellence in international architecture and construction, celebrating projects that advance design innovation and precision. Sutton Tower’s selection reflects its architectural ambition and enduring character within New York’s evolving skyline. “We’re incredibly proud to see Sutton Tower recognized with the BLT Built Design Award and celebrate achieving $150 million in sales this year,” said Van Nguyen of JVP Development. “These achievements reflect the appeal of Sutton Tower to the market and the dedication of our entire team. To be recognized for both commercial success and design excellence underscores the project’s impact on the community and the industry alike.”

As Thomas Juul-Hansen’s first skyscraper, Sutton Tower reinterprets classic New York elegance with contemporary precision. Clad entirely in Bavarian limestone from base to crown, the façade evokes craftsmanship rarely seen in modern high-rise construction. The design transitions from a textured lower façade that echoes the historic Sutton Place neighborhood to a glass-enclosed upper portion emphasizing light and verticality. A champagne-colored crown with geometric facets adds a refined sculptural quality to the skyline. “We conceived Sutton Tower as a study in bridging the old and new Gotham,” said Juul-Hansen. “Our goal was to bring warmth and human scale to the skyscraper form through natural materials and sculptural detail.”

Inside, Juul-Hansen’s attention to materiality continues across 120 corner residences, each with two or more exposures and floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic views of the East River and Midtown skyline. Interiors include wide-plank oak flooring, ebonized oak entry doors, and custom millwork. Bathrooms feature radiant-heated floors, bookmatched Calacatta Gold marble, and Laufen soaking tubs, while kitchens are finished with Statuarietto marble islands, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and custom Italian cabinetry.

Residents enjoy more than 22,000 square feet of amenities within The Sutton Club, spanning five naturally lit floors. Spaces include a skylit lounge with terrace, private dining room, library, screening room, children’s playroom, and game room. Wellness offerings range from a 50-foot indoor pool and spa suite to infrared saunas and a state-of-the-art fitness studio.

Further distinguishing the building, residents receive exclusive privileges through partnerships with Blade and UOVO: Art, Fashion, Wine, ranging from preferred rates on air travel to curated art and wine services. Located amid Sutton Place’s tree-lined streets, townhouses, and parks, the tower provides serenity within proximity to Midtown and the Upper East Side’s cultural destinations.

With its architectural integrity, handcrafted detailing, and strong market performance, Sutton Tower redefines what modern New York luxury represents, an enduring structure that connects artistry, livability, and place.
