The fifth edition of the Shaping Surfaces competition by Cleaf recognizes the Bluegame BGM75 yacht by Lissoni & Partners as its winner. The jury, made up of experts across architecture, design, and scenography, Gianluca Bellomo, Francesca Gastone, Andrea Martinelli, Francesca Molteni, and Margherita Palli, evaluated submissions based on originality in design and effective use of Cleaf’s surface materials.

The BGM75 stood out for the way it rethinks space aboard a catamaran. Rather than conceal the vessel’s dual-hull construction, the architects used it to guide the spatial organization. This approach maximizes volume and improves circulation, while aligning the design with the yacht’s technical form.

A Layout Guided by Structure

Lissoni & Partners designed the interiors by following the contours of the catamaran instead of working against them. The resulting plan eliminates visual and spatial disconnection between the two hulls. Cabins align with the shape of the structure, creating a balanced and efficient flow across all levels.

Hybrid areas connect interior and exterior zones, with large windows playing a key role in visual transparency and natural light. These openings extend the perception of space, while offering uninterrupted views across the sea. The integration of outdoor and indoor zones happens through proportion, rather than symmetry, giving the yacht a fluid spatial language.

Material Choice: Alpaca FA44

To define the ceiling and wall surfaces throughout the vessel, the design team selected Alpaca FA44, one of Cleaf’s signature textures. This material draws from the soft sheen of natural alpaca fibers, historically linked to garments worn by Inca royalty.

By using Alpaca FA44 across the upper, main, and lower decks, the architects achieved visual cohesion while preserving a tactile quality throughout the interiors. The surface works across multiple lighting conditions, allowing the texture to read clearly whether in daylight or in ambient evening light. The decision to apply the same finish across different levels creates continuity without redundancy. It adds character without competing with other material choices or the architecture itself.

Recognition for Design and Execution

The jury praised the project not only for its spatial composition but for its material restraint. Each surface plays a specific role. Rather than treating the interior as a showroom of finishes, the team used Cleaf products strategically, especially where they could reinforce architectural lines and enhance comfort.

Collaboration and Craft

Lissoni & Partners carried out the project in collaboration with Cleaf’s official distributor, Zamperetti Legnami, ensuring consistent fabrication and application throughout the construction process. Their coordination ensured that the textures performed as intended across different structural conditions, vertical, horizontal, curved, and angled surfaces.

From the first sketches to the final detailing, the design team maintained clarity in execution. That precision, paired with a clear spatial idea, helped distinguish the Bluegame BGM75 from other entries.

Acknowledging the Participants

Cleaf extended thanks to all participants of the fifth edition of Shaping Surfaces, acknowledging the diverse ideas and applications submitted. The competition continues to offer a platform for innovation in how materials define and support contemporary interiors.

With the Bluegame BGM75, Lissoni & Partners show how careful alignment between architecture and finish can deliver both technical and visual quality, even in confined or unconventional spaces like a catamaran.
