250 WYNWOOD by DFA

Architectural firm DFA designed a new building located in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami, Florida, which is known for its public art. The architects wanted the building to fit in with the neighborhood, and  included public artwork in the design of the building’s ceilings. Each ceiling has been painted by a variety of commissioned artists, so that the art can be enjoyed by anyone walking by on the street. The The public artwork is planned to be changed every number of years, allowing it to continuously add to the character of the Wynwood Arts District.

Of the three formats presented, the client chose the interlocking fingers schematic. The 11 condominiums occupy 6 floors, and are configured for varying live/work requirements. All units have deep, large balconies and access to a common rooftop deck with sweeping views of Downtown Miami. DFA conceived of a design for the building itself as a public canvas, upon which various pieces of art will be commissioned and exhibited. The public artwork will be changed out periodically, and add to the character of the Wynwood Arts District.
