A Siena apartment in the city’s historic core spans two structures, a medieval tower house and an early 13th-century residential wing. The owners, both art collectors, collaborated with Paolo Mori of CMT Architetti to establish a layout that responds to the building’s layered history while accommodating a curated collection of artworks.

Materials and Floor System
HD Surface supplied its PerfectCombination flooring system in a Beige tone throughout the living areas. This solution combines the tactile presence of concrete with the performance of resin, offering a smooth, durable surface that works alongside the apartment’s older materials. Two living room walls retain their original exposed brick, treated with a light lime wash that preserves their character while softening the overall palette. Original wooden ceiling beams remain visible, contributing to the spatial rhythm and connecting the apartment to its past.

Spatial Layout
The kitchen and living areas remain visually connected while still functioning as separate spaces. CMT Architetti introduced white plasterboard walls that do not reach the ceiling, capping them with glass panels that extend to the timber structure above. This design gesture creates a sense of transparency and flow without sacrificing definition or utility.

Framing the City
Every room, except the entrance, offers views of Siena’s architectural icons, including the Torre del Mangia, the Dome of the Church of Provenzano, and historic facades along Via Cecco Angiolieri. These perspectives operate as living artworks, framing the interior experience with the historical character of the city beyond. Each window becomes a dynamic visual element, shifting with time and light.

Atmosphere and Experience
The apartment’s material restraint places emphasis on presence, both of art and architecture. HD Surface’s floor anchors the space without drawing attention away from the other textures in play. The subdued tones and clean finish support the artwork without crowding it. Inside, exposed masonry and polished surfaces coexist in a deliberate composition.
