This eight-story hotel features 98 rooms and embraces the challenge of fitting seamlessly into the existing cityscape. Its design, crafted by the renowned architect Jorge Domingues, respects the heights of neighboring buildings, achieving a balance between integration and prominence.
The façade of the hotel faces an eastward square, drawing in the morning light through a rhythmic arrangement of windows. This design not only emphasizes the building’s verticality but also breaks the monotony with a playful array of mismatched openings. The combination of precast concrete panels and distinct window framing creates a dynamic visual effect, enhanced by the alternating use of horizontal and vertical lines across the façade. This strategic cladding ensures the building stands out as a coherent and aesthetically pleasing structure in its urban setting.
Inside, the ground level of the Famalicão B&B Hotel is designed to be welcoming and functional. The entrance leads into a spacious lounge area, directly connected visually to the bustling square outside through a transparent glass plinth that extends to the first floor. This level also houses several service areas, which are cleverly situated with an entrance on the quieter west façade, facilitating smooth operation without disturbing the guests’ experience.
The layout of the upper floors is meticulously planned for ease of access and privacy. A central corridor on each floor directs guests to their rooms, evenly split between east and west-facing, allowing for choice and variety in views and lighting. The corridors themselves are designed with dark materials, crafting a subtly lit, intimate pathway that contrasts sharply with the bright and airy rooms.
