From the Architects:
How can we reconnect the waterfront to the spectacular Chicago Skyline?
The Navy Pier is one of the greatest living legacies of Daniel Burnham’s “Plan of Chicago” that included a grand public waterfront. While the pier is widely used by the people, it lacks physical and visual connections back to the city. We propose to extend the existing pier upwards by elevating public life onto the rooftops and restoring uninterrupted views of the famous Chicago skyline. In addition, we propose a second spectacular destination at the East End Park where it takes visitors both over and into the water.
