Mário Martins Atelier has recently completed work on this stunning private residence in Lagos, Portugal. Perched gracefully on a sun-kissed hillside, with a commanding view of the picturesque bay of Lagos in Portugal, Casa Libre exudes an architectural finesse that seamlessly blends privacy and openness. Its design philosophy is rooted in the notion of inward-facing tranquility, as it embraces a serene patio that serves as a sanctuary from the outside world. However, this remarkable abode also embraces the vastness of the southern horizon, where the mesmerizing view seamlessly merges with the boundless expanse of the sea. The house boasts a sleek and minimalist aesthetic, characterized by its clean lines and symmetrical layout. Constructed entirely from exposed concrete, the single-story dwelling seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. The design revolves around a central patio, serving as the heart of the home, from which the structure elegantly extends towards the expansive horizon. The juxtaposition of the substantial weight of concrete with the ethereal lightness of a loosely suspended canopy, complemented by the delicate transparency of glazed surfaces, creates a harmonious balance within the architectural composition.

The striking feature of this design lies in the loose and slim canopy, crafted from exposed concrete, that gracefully extends over the glazed area. This architectural element not only provides shelter and shade to the wooden decking in the garden, but also adds a touch of elegance with its sleek design. The architectural composition is complemented by the presence of a lengthy swimming pool that gracefully spans the entire expanse of the house’s facade. A striking monolithic structure, exuding an air of timeless elegance, emerges majestically from the surrounding garden. Its sleek black facade, carefully chosen for its neutral aesthetic, effortlessly harmonizes with its surroundings. The mesmerizing sight of water gracefully cascading down its sides creates a captivating spectacle, enhancing the overall allure of this architectural masterpiece. The roof has been thoughtfully designed to provide accessibility, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in the lush green surroundings. This seamless connection to the garden creates a harmonious and tranquil environment. The garden itself is characterized by its simplicity and natural beauty, featuring an array of resilient plants that are able to thrive even in arid conditions. The architectural design of the house gracefully embraces the surrounding vegetation, allowing it to organically intertwine with the structure. This harmonious integration creates an enticing outdoor environment that beckons one to explore and indulge in the flourishing greenery. The architectural design seamlessly integrates the house with the surrounding garden, creating a harmonious connection that evokes a sense of embrace. The boundaries of the dwelling have been artfully blurred, yielding an enhanced and more fluid residential experience. Within this space, one can discover intimate and cozy corners, carefully crafted to provide a sense of warmth and closeness. Additionally, there are expansive areas that offer awe-inspiring vistas, allowing one to immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings.

The path is formed by strategically carving out concrete volumes. A striking beam of sunlight emanates from the western direction, gracefully illuminating an impressive entrance composed of sturdy timber. This entrance, situated adjacent to the central patio, serves as the focal point of the residence, accentuated by the majestic presence of a carob tree. The patio serves as a delineating element, effectively establishing the connections and divisions between the communal spaces of the living room and kitchen, which face the southern direction, and the secluded quarters comprising four bedrooms, situated in the eastern wing. Located to the north and west of the main structure, one can find the meticulously designed garage, technical facilities, and various support areas. Through meticulous design and thoughtful conceptualization, the selection of materials and their close proximity to raw sources, as well as the utilization of cutting-edge equipment, our aim is to discover solutions that not only achieve exceptional standards of comfort but also effectively minimize the consumption of energy resources. Casa Libre embodies the essence of creative liberation, perpetually striving for innovative resolutions while upholding utmost reverence for both individuals and their surroundings.
