In the heart of the Albanian Riviera, where the mountains meet the Ionian Sea, Red Sol Resort emerges as a striking reinterpretation of coastal architecture. Designed by Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, the project is a response to the dramatic terrain of Dhërmi. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the resort takes cues from its surroundings, respecting the steep inclines, rugged cliffs, and lush Mediterranean vegetation.

ARCHITECTURE

The architects approached the design with a methodical yet fluid vision, laying out a fine grid, a ‘reticulum,’ that serves as an organizational structure for the resort. While this geometric approach brings order to the site, it also allows for natural adaptability. The interconnected pavilions, villas, and apartments shift in elevation, mimicking the rhythm of the terrain as they cascade toward the shoreline. This thoughtful configuration ensures that each space offers unique vantage points and an evolving relationship with the sea.

Materiality plays a defining role in Red Sol Resort’s aesthetic and environmental integration. Earthy facades blend seamlessly with the rocky coastline, lending a timeless quality to the design. The resort’s fortress-like presence, punctuated by bridges, staircases, and terraces, reinforces a sense of movement and discovery. The architectural language echoes historical settlements yet remains undeniably contemporary, balancing tradition with modern sensibilities.

Beyond its physical form, the resort is designed for experience. Intimate courtyards and infinity pools are woven throughout, offering both private escapes and communal gathering spaces. Expansive terraces frame sweeping views of the Ionian Sea, encouraging guests to engage with their surroundings in a way that feels organic rather than prescribed.

At its core, Red Sol Resort represents a dialogue between structure and setting, embracing the unpredictable beauty of the coastline rather than working against it. Bofill Taller de Arquitectura has created more than a resort, they have crafted an immersive architectural experience that honors the raw power and serenity of the Albanian Riviera.
