Melting Furniture by Rado Kirov

Bulgarian Sculptor, Rado Kirov, who has had an extensive background in copper, silver and gold smithing, has recently shifted his focus to stainless steel and functional artworks. Having created some historically profound pieces such as the silver chalice presented to Pope John Paull II by Nelson Mandela, Kirov now graces us with a collection of modern furniture. Each piece is unique and beautiful, with the artist juxtaposing reflective, liquid-like surfaces of stainless steel with natural wood in his creation.

Rado developed a unique technique of manipulating a sheet of stainless steel by hand, using the inherent physical properties of the metal to create a striking three-dimensional surface that dynamically mirrors its surroundings and draws the observer into the magic of its reflection. Rado’s new-found passion for sculpture and his mastery of stainless steel are expressed in this new medium, which he has called the Mercury Effect.
