Zaha Hadid Architects, renowned for their avant-garde approach to architecture and design, presented their latest masterpiece, the Erosion Collection, in Milan this week. Collaborating with Neutra, the collection delves into the interplay between materiality, time, and form. At the heart of this collection are the Minera Table and Branch Console, two pieces that not only redefine furniture but also celebrate the beauty of natural stone transformed by the passage of time.

Crafted from the finest Carrara marble, the Erosion Collection challenges conventional distinctions between furniture and sculpture. The fluid forms and sinuous lines of these pieces evoke the organic erosion processes found in nature, inviting viewers to contemplate a different concept of spatial design.

The Minera Table stands as an example of precision craftsmanship and material integrity. Carved from a single block of marble, its undulating surface echoes the erosive patterns seen in nature. Despite its substantial dimensions—measuring 320 x 160 x 72 cm—the table exudes a sense of grace and lightness, inviting interaction and conversation. Limited to just eight pieces, each Minera Table is an expression of elegance and exclusivity.

In contrast, the Branch Console embodies a delicate balance between solidity and weightlessness. Its design conjures images of symmetrical branches reaching towards the sky. The seamless integration of form and function is evident as two branches rise from the base to cradle the expansive surface of the console. This design creates a captivating central void that enhances the ethereal qualities of the piece, inviting observers to explore the interplay of positive and negative space.
