Madhappy announces the opening of its Malibu flagship, marking the brand’s fourth permanent retail location after West Hollywood, New York City, and Tokyo. The new store sits just off the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Point, placing the brand within a coastal setting that informs both the design and the overall experience. The 2,400 square foot space brings together retail, café, and community-focused programming within a single environment.
COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURE
The brand develops the Malibu location in collaboration with London-based design studio Brinkworth. The project builds on the visual language established in earlier stores while introducing a direction shaped by the light and tone of Malibu. The design draws from post-war Case Study Houses, referencing a period that shaped California architecture and mid-century design. Glass, steel, and concrete define the material palette, while an open-plan layout encourages movement and interaction across the space.

The interior uses form and color with control, creating a setting that feels calm. The layout allows natural light to move through the store, connecting interior elements with the surrounding environment. This approach keeps the space open and direct, supporting both retail activity and informal gathering.
A limestone installation frames the apparel rails, bringing a sense of the surrounding terrain into the store. Positioned near full-length glass windows, this feature establishes a direct visual connection with the exterior. The placement allows the interior to respond to the outside environment, creating a continuous relationship between both. The store extends this approach through a plantscape developed by Los Angeles-based studio Plant Provisions, which introduces greenery across the space and softens the architectural structure.

Madhappy also expands its Pantry café concept within the Malibu flagship. First introduced in West Hollywood, Pantry returns here with a collaborative menu shaped by local and international partners. HOTEL DRUGS provides espresso, tea, and seasonal items developed in collaboration with Pantry. Courage Bagels joins with a selection of its signature offerings, served alongside sides that include jersey cow butter and organic pastured cream cheese. Bianca contributes baked goods with references to Italy, France, and Argentina, while Sobuneh introduces two breakfast burrito options built around pasture-raised eggs, avocado, and additional ingredients.
Beverly Hills Juice adds a rotating menu of fresh, cold-pressed juices, continuing its presence as a neighborhood staple since 1975. Cinnies introduces handmade cinnamon rolls, building on its reputation through local market appearances. Softside, connected to New York’s Upside Pizza, makes its West Coast debut at Pantry with a menu focused on soft serve. Flavors include chocolate, vanilla, and swirl, with toppings such as Oreos, hot fudge, rainbow sprinkles, and cinnamon toast crunch. The menu also includes sundaes such as The Riff and The Bruce, each combining multiple ingredients into a defined offering.

To mark the opening, Madhappy releases a limited Malibu capsule available exclusively in-store. The retail selection also includes the brand’s seasonal Classics collections and recent collaborations with Hanes, PUMA, and Paraboot.
Madhappy Malibu opens on March 21 at 23465 Civic Center Way in Malibu, California. The store operates from 11AM to 7PM Monday through Saturday and from 11AM to 6PM on Sunday.
