Hidden deep within a transformed coastal estate in the Netherlands, Hidden Villa by i29 architects offers a modern residence that fully embraces its surroundings. Designed to respect the history of the land, the home integrates contemporary architecture with the natural environment. Lush greenery surrounds the structure, ensuring privacy while creating a peaceful retreat.

Once inside, the villa reveals a carefully orchestrated connection between interior and exterior. The garden plays a central role, shaping the experience of the space. Sightlines extend outward, with different zones around the property offering various perspectives. The outdoor areas, visible from within, enhance the sense of openness while maintaining an intimate atmosphere.

Flow Between Indoors and Outdoors

The design of Hidden Villa maximizes the relationship between the built structure and its environment. Expansive glass walls, double-height patios, and covered walkways encourage movement through the space, allowing residents to transition between indoor and outdoor areas. Large canopies provide shade and regulate temperature, aligning with the sun’s path to prevent overheating. These architectural elements not only enhance comfort but also reinforce the connection to nature.

Inside, rooms flow into one another, echoing the organic layout of the surrounding garden. The openness of the design allows natural light to penetrate deep into the interior, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. Carefully placed patios introduce greenery into the heart of the villa, ensuring that nature remains present in every part of the home.

A Refined Material Palette

The villa’s exterior showcases a combination of wood, stone, concrete, and glass, creating a balanced composition of textures. Oil-treated ash wood clads the entrance, patios, and upper-level facades, while light Kolumba bricks define the lower portions of the home and the outbuilding. White concrete floors extend from the interior to the outdoor walkways, reinforcing the fluid transition between spaces.

Minimalist aluminum frames and expansive glass panes contribute to the villa’s transparency, ensuring that views of the surrounding greenery remain uninterrupted. Inside, dark-oiled oak panels, continuous white concrete flooring, and natural stone kitchen features reflect the same level of craftsmanship found in the home’s exterior. Bathrooms incorporate various tile finishes, adding depth and texture to private spaces.

Tailored Design for a Personalized Experience

The interiors feature custom-made furniture and built-in cabinetry, designed to complement the architecture rather than overpower it. These elements integrate seamlessly into the structure, reinforcing a sense of balance. Thoughtful lighting design enhances different moods throughout the home, with KNX-controlled systems allowing residents to adjust ambiance as needed.

Each space prioritizes both function and atmosphere, ensuring that the home feels personal and inviting. The connection between architecture and lifestyle remains a guiding principle, with every detail contributing to a cohesive living experience.

An Outdoor Space Designed for Living

The garden extends the home’s living areas, offering multiple spaces for relaxation and entertainment. A swimming pool, fire pit, and outdoor kitchen create an inviting environment that encourages outdoor living year-round. Covered terraces provide shelter while maintaining a direct connection to nature.

Greenery wraps around the villa, moving through patios and surrounding seating areas, ensuring that every outdoor space feels integrated into the larger design. Instead of serving as a separate element, the garden actively shapes the experience of the home, reinforcing its relationship with the natural world.
