KARL LAGERFELD has introduced KARL LAGERFELD MAISON, an interior design line inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s passion for interior design. As each piece is expertly crafted in Italy, the furnishings mix his trademark vision with modern ingenuity and handmade excellence. The world premiere of KARL LAGERFELD MAISON took place during Milan Design Week 2023 in its brand-new showroom in via Passione 8. Discover more about the collection after the jump.
The Saint Germain and Saint Guillaume living room and bedroom sets, the Quai Voltaire kitchen, and the Rue de l’Université lighting collection are just a few examples of the furniture groupings that bear the names of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite Parisian districts. A palette of black and white is contrasted with neutral colors and splashes of red throughout each room, and geometric lines are used to contrast reflective surfaces with soft, elliptical forms. The three-person Saint Germain sofa, which also serves as a mini library and has sides that have elegant built-in shelves for horizontally stacked volumes, is a standout piece. As his personal library grew to over 300,000 books, Karl Lagerfeld’s love of reading and the way he presented them served as inspiration for the design.
“Karl wasn’t just fascinated by interior design — he was deeply passionate about it,” says Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL LAGERFELD. “It was therefore a natural decision to expand our brand’s global lifestyle offering with the KARL LAGERFELD MAISON collection. This exciting category celebrates our DNA and offers a new way to explore and experience Karl’s world. The pieces are bold, sophisticated and elegant; just like Karl, they make an immediate impact.”
The house of KARL LAGERFELD serves as the artistic director for the collection, and each season the Maison will welcome a guest designer from the outside to share their knowledge and perspective. Accordingly, the first-ever KARL LAGERFELD MAISON collection was developed in partnership with renowned interior designer Matteo Nunziati, whose singular vision juxtaposed meticulously studied and angular lines with symmetrical structures.
“During my design process, I thought of Karl walking along the banks of Hamburg’s canals or visiting the elegant mansion houses of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris,” says Nunziati. “Both cities were important in Karl’s history and they inspired me to balance the rigor of Bauhaus and sophisticated Parisian elegance. It’s been an honor to collaborate with the KARL LAGERFELD TEAM and work with the best Italian craftsmen to develop a contemporary, warm and emotional collection full of extraordinary details.”
