LOEWE Vancouver Store Is a Study in Material Tension

Color, Craft and Curation

LOEWE has opened a new store at Oakridge in Vancouver, expanding its retail presence in Canada with an interior that reads as much as a design installation as a shopping environment.

The space is defined by a deliberate material tension: a green façade gives way to a saturated blue interior, establishing an immediate visual shift at the threshold. Handmade ceramic tiles in green, bright blue, white and silver line walls and podiums, while green marble surfaces and brass detailing carry the material conversation through the room. Bespoke wool rugs developed from original tapestries by British textile artist John Allen introduce graphic rhythm underfoot.

INSPIRING FASHION RETAIL DESIGN

The furniture selection brings together a considered range of 20th-century and contemporary design voices. George Nakashima chairs in American black walnut sit alongside an Axel Vervoordt table, a Steltman chair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, and Akari light sculptures by Isamu Noguchi. Spanish antique ceramic vessels, marble podiums, and a LOEWE leather Puffer bench complete the arrangement.

LOEWE was founded in Spain in 1846. Since 2025, the House has been under the creative direction of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, whose approach to materiality and craft aligns closely with the sensibility on display in Vancouver. The Oakridge store carries women’s ready-to-wear, bags, small leather goods, shoes, hats, belts and eyewear representing a true Loewe home in Vancouver.

The curation draws from the LOEWE art collection and includes works by Altoon Sultan (Two Arches, 2023), Hylton Nel (Cat Vase II, 2021), Ken Price (Easter Island Plate, 1977), and a 1982 ceramic work by John Ward. Walnut wall pieces by Julian Watts (2024) were commissioned specifically for the space, while a chromogenic print by Sarah Lucas (Got a Salmon On, 1997) brings a sharper conceptual register. Together, the selection reflects the House’s long-standing commitment to placing art, craft and architecture in direct dialogue. Art occupies a central position throughout Loewe Vancouver store.
