UNODE Estudio reworks Casa AT through a full renovation of a terraced single family house in Aravaca, Madrid. A family asked for a ground floor that could support daily routines, gatherings with friends and a stronger connection to the garden.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Before the renovation, the ground floor carried a fragmented layout. A central column and beam interrupted the continuity of the space, while small windows limited the relationship with the garden. UNODE Estudio addresses these conditions through a precise intervention. The studio removes internal partitions, enlarges the openings toward the garden and introduces a curved central volume for the new guest bathroom.

This curved piece gives the ground floor its new order. It accommodates the required program, guides circulation and creates different areas within the open plan. It also absorbs the existing structural elements into the layout, allowing the column and beam to become part of the spatial logic.

Oak furniture shapes the interior and gives the renovation its main character. UNODE Estudio designs each element specifically for the house, allowing furniture and architecture to work as one system. In the double height entrance hall, a built in wardrobe and bench welcome visitors and organize access.

A continuous oak element structures the main living area. It integrates the kitchen, seating, shelving and fireplace into one long piece, giving the open plan a clear rhythm. This furniture does more than furnish the room. It defines use, supports everyday life and connects the different functions of the ground floor.

The renovation also extends the interior toward the garden. UNODE Estudio redesigns the outdoor area with a new layout, a swimming pool and a covered parking area converted into an outdoor living space. These changes allow the family to use the garden as an active part of the home. The enlarged openings strengthen that connection, bringing the ground floor closer to outdoor life.

Casa AT also incorporates systems that improve comfort and energy performance throughout the year. Photovoltaic panels sit on the roof, while an aerothermal system supports the house’s energy strategy. Underfloor heating and cooling serve the ground floor, helping the main level respond to seasonal changes with greater comfort.

The project keeps its focus on how the family lives. The studio reorganizes movement, use, light and access to the garden. The intervention gives the ground floor a stronger sense of continuity and makes each area more responsive to daily life.
