Entre Quatre Murs has completed Du Corail Residence, a contemporary single family home located at the edge of a wooded property in Mirabel. The Montreal based studio developed the project over four years, shaping more than 7,700 square feet, around the conditions of the site and the daily needs of its residents.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The interior unfolds across three levels, with each floor serving a distinct part of family life. Large openings establish direct visual connections with the surrounding trees and carry natural light deep into the rooms. The architects organized the spaces to support privacy, shared routines, leisure and visits from guests.

A mezzanine sits above the main floor and functions as a private retreat for the owners. Its elevated position provides carefully framed views into the tree canopy and separates the area from the more social spaces below.

The lower level contains leisure areas, bedrooms for the teenagers and guest accommodation. The natural slope of the terrain gives this floor greater visual openness than a conventional basement and allows it to connect more closely with the exterior.

Between these levels, the open main floor brings the living room, kitchen and dining area together within one generous volume. Wide glazed bays bring daylight into the plan and frame changing views of the property. Light moves across stone, wood and pale surfaces throughout the day, giving the interior a shifting atmosphere. A suspended staircase connects all three floors. Entre Quatre Murs paired its light structure with a glass balustrade, allowing views and daylight to pass between levels.

The material palette responds directly to the mineral and wooded character of the site. Natural stone moves from the exterior envelope into the interior, creating continuity between the architecture and its setting. Wood covers ceilings and floors and appears throughout the built in furniture. Its warm tone gives definition to the large volumes and establishes a direct relationship with the surrounding forest.

The residence follows biophilic and bioclimatic principles through its material choices, broad openings, passive solar gains and natural ventilation.

Entre Quatre Murs developed the kitchen with the owners as a custom composition of pale grey cabinetry, natural wood and black details. Pale quartz countertops bring a lighter surface to the room and balance the darker accents.

A glazed corner wine cellar stands between the kitchen and dining area. The transparent enclosure preserves sightlines across the main floor while giving the wine collection a prominent architectural role. Arranged like a domestic library, the bottles become part of the room’s visual organization.

The studio created walk in closets, integrated furniture and vanities for the people who use them. Concealed lighting adjusts the mood during different parts of the day and supports the function of each room.
