Prashant Parmar Architect designed A Cube House in Paldi, Ahmedabad, as a response to a compact urban site and a family’s long connection to place. Set on a compact 1,187 square foot plot, the residence uses a vertical plan to reach 4,060 square feet of built area while maintaining a strong sense of openness.
HOUSING
The family had lived on the site for over four decades, so the project began with memory as much as function. The existing house could no longer support their changing lifestyle, yet the family wanted to remain in the same neighborhood. They asked for a contemporary five bedroom home that could bring nature, daylight and family interaction into daily life, despite the limits of the plot.

The architects turned verticality into the main design tool. They arranged the residence across multiple levels and placed a triple height open to sky core through the center of the home. This volume gives the house its spiritual and architectural focus. It draws daylight deep into the interiors, supports natural ventilation and connects the floors visually. The core also gives the family a shared internal space that breaks the density of the urban site.
The exterior takes its identity from a clear cuboidal composition, which gives the house its name. Terracotta toned brick screens, slender metal fins, textured stonecrete surfaces and wood finish cladding create a layered facade. These elements manage privacy, light and texture while giving the building a strong street presence. A circular opening cuts through the facade, framing views and adding a geometric detail that links the architecture with nature.

Inside, the material palette creates a calm and polished atmosphere. Grey marble flooring anchors the rooms, while teakwood finish surfaces add warmth. Decorative modified clay claddings, fluted panels, bronze accents and soft neutral tones shape the interiors with restraint. The house uses these materials across family spaces and private rooms, giving the residence a consistent character.

The open to sky puja area brings serenity into the center of the plan. Living spaces support daily interaction, while private bedroom suites offer comfort for each family member. The terrace garden extends the relationship with nature to the upper levels and gives the home an outdoor space within the dense urban setting.
A Cube House shows how planning can change the experience of a small site. The architects use height, light and internal connections to make the home feel open without relying on a large plot.
