Interior designer Timothy Godbold has recently taken on an ambitious project that has turned his Southampton home into a modern residence inspired by the iconic lairs featured in James Bond films. This daring transformation has seen the home’s exterior painted in sleek black and the interior meticulously reimagined.

Godbold’s Southampton residence, spanning 1,700 square feet, was originally constructed in 1973 by architect Eugene L. Futterman. Futterman, celebrated for his contributions to mid-20th-century architecture in the Hamptons, created a house nestled in the woods, elegantly perched along the slope, and serving as the canvas for Timothy Godbold’s ambitious vision.

The inspiration for this extraordinary renovation came from Godbold’s fascination with the iconic lairs featured in James Bond films. Drawing from the captivating aesthetics that have left an indelible mark on him, Godbold set out to breathe new life into this previously overlooked gem.

Much like the lairs of James Bond’s adversaries, stainless steel plays a prominent role in the revamped Southampton home. It can be seen throughout, from the furniture selections to the intricate hardware. The living room fireplace, a focal point of the residence, draws inspiration from Mayan Ziggurat temples, showcasing an architectural grandeur that adds to the overall allure.

The design also pays homage to legendary architect Paul Rudolph, specifically his angled walls and hanging gardens. These elements come together to create an interior space that seamlessly marries aesthetics with functionality, mirroring the grace and intrigue of a classic Bond film set.

In the pursuit of creating an open and inviting space, the top floor of the residence underwent significant alterations. Walls in the primary bathroom were removed to improve the flow, and the floors were strategically raised to achieve a floating effect, adding a modern twist to the home. The exterior, too, underwent a remarkable transformation. A new staircase was introduced, visually mirroring floating lily pads above lush green ground covers, adding a touch of mystique that Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, would undoubtedly approve of.
